Cattle – Pregnancy Testing
On-farm manual pregnancy testing
Rectal palpation is still the fastest and most convenient method of pregnancy testing cattle. Using this method, our vets can accuarately identify pregnant cows as early as six weeks after conception.
Any internal and external problems with your cattle are quickly identified by the vet and these can be discussed cow-side making veterinary pregnancy testing extra effective as a management tool.
Cows need to be restrained in a race, preferably with their heads in a headbail for safety. In well designed yards and with multiple people yarding the cattle, the process can be moved through reasonably swiftly, with between 80 to 110 cows tested per hour.
Please note where cattle yard facilities are smaller and less efficient, pregnancy testing will take longer and vets may charge an hourly rate, instead of our per-head rate.
Give our team a call to discuss your herd pregnancy testing requirements.
